Welcome to the website for The Sunflower House, Mexico!
Our ministry provides academic and health education to women and children in Baja California, Mexico.
In early November 2013, we began teaching women basic English, reading and comprehension as well as Spanish reading for those with limited education in the local community. Learning English opens the doors for employment opportunities and the potential for improved quality of life.
In March of 2014, we will begin teaching pre-school to the local children of LaMision. Our Christian curriculum will include a foundation for Spanish literacy and immersion into the English language. We are excited and privileged to have this opportunity to impact and change lives.
From the beginning, we have served the La Huerta Kumeyaay (or in Spanish) Kumiai, Indigenous Indian community in the Northern Baja region of Mexico.
*We provide basic support for pregnant women through monthly vital checking, dispensing of vitamins and food, and transportation to professional care when needed.
*We offer educational classes. Topics range from infant care, nutrition, basic first aid, oral hygiene, blood pressure and glucose management, menopause, reproduction and mental health care.
*Other services include assistance with medical and dental building projects, distribution of practical items; clothes, shoes, school supplies, vitamins, and food. When possible we bring medical and dental professionals to serve at the communities.
*Hosting special events, like Christmas and Easter luncheons, allows us the opportunity to minister to an entire community.
